Terms of use
Last updated: 2026-05-31
Splitit is open-source software. These terms cover use of the hosted instance at www.splitit.in. If you self-host, your instance is yours; the operator of that instance decides their own terms.
No warranty
Splitit is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. Bill-splitting math is best-effort and presented for personal record-keeping; it is not financial, legal or tax advice. Do not rely on Splitit balances as a legal record of debt between people.
Your account
You are responsible for the activity on your account. Keep your password and devices secure. Tell us via a GitHub issue if you think someone else has accessed your account.
Acceptable use
- No scraping, no automated bulk creation of accounts or expenses.
- No harassment, abuse, or impersonation of other users.
- No use of the SMS auto-detect feature to forward third-party data without consent.
- We may suspend accounts that violate these terms or that put the service or other users at risk.
Your data
Your data is yours. You can export every group as CSV from Group → Settings → Export and every friend ledger from the friend detail page. Deleting your account removes your data from the hosted instance.
Service changes
Splitit is built in the open by one person. We may change features, stop running the hosted instance, or migrate it. If we stop running the hosted service we will give at least 30 days notice on the GitHub repo so you can self-host or export your data first.
License
The Splitit source code is published under the MIT License. Hosted-service use is additionally bound by these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the hosted service after a change counts as acceptance of the new terms.
